Notes on the project

The final goals of the project are:

- to classify all the rests of the Roman monuments, built for celebration, commemoration, military, games, dwelling, viability, hydraulic or for entertainment purposes, which have some physical requirements;

- to get the photografic evidence of the remains;

- to get information on the generic characteristics of the remains and of the monuments, at the time they had their greatest development;

- to get information on the place where the remains are, as its latin name and the Roman territorial administration (Augustean regions or province under Hadrian)

Notes on the listed monuments

Types and territorial lists: distribution in Rome (in the Regiones of the City centre and in the outskirts), in Italy and in the Empire follows these indications: "Numero Ufficiale Signa Romanorum" (Official Signa Romanorum Number) assigned, modern name of the location where the monument is (it could be: only in Italiano, both in Italiano and English, only in  the original language, in the original language and English, in the original language  and Italian and English), name of the location with its Latin name (whereas it changed during the centuries it is the one had at the roman conquest period). The modern name of an archaelogical  site, whenever this is not occupied by a modern settlement, is the one of the administral entity where the site is placed.

Aqueducts historical and architectural notes ~ complete list (Only external remains, not considering what is still underground, are included in the list; they must be at least 4 complete arches in a row, even though one on the other, or with just one arch whereas it is an aqueduct-bridge; in this case it follows the same rules of the 'bridges'; whereas more than one segment stands in the same logostic unit, just one entry will be displayed. If the remain is in common with more than one aqueduct -coming from other sources- then the more ancient aqueduct gives the number to the rest).
